CRAFTED BY HAND

DESIGNED WITH HEART

Molding, embossing and drawing with and on paper – Sabine Trowe creatively assembles and binds books, constructs extraordinary little boxes, designs unique cards and much more. Arising from her passion and fascination for paper in all its forms, her pieces evolve organically from the innate sensuality of the materials. In addition to her own handcrafted papers and exclusive papers from around the world, she incorporates other materials such as fabric, leather, wood, glass and found natural objects in the culmination of her art works.

PAPERS AND WATERCOLOURS

BEAUTIFULLY COMBINED

Her books are bound according to traditional Japanese techniques, wherein the binding is visible and thus becomes a beautiful and integral part of the whole. Watercolors within the books or on the cover blend into the various forms of paper. They may act as an allusion to the different papers and often form a dialogue between the paper and the painting.

CRAFT AND

PRECISION

Sabine Trowe’s works combine her personal artistic expression with traditional techniques of paper making. All of her own papers originate from raw materials, such as cotton linter, hemp, flax and kozo — fibers of the paper mulberry tree. The fibers are dyed with non-toxic, natural colors and pigmentation. The papers she then creates often include blossoms, pressed petals and plants, as well as other natural color pigments. All these elements are combined during the raw pulp stage and emerge into handcrafted papers of differing transparency and thickness.
